Hey everyone!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season, and happy New Year to you all as well. I just wanted to take a moment and thank all of my customers, friends, and fans who made another year possible. It's not an unusual place to find myself, but especially starting a new year I stop and contemplate how fortunate I am to have such great people to work with, and to be doing something I enjoy. My favorite part of army painting is not the start, the process, or even the finish, but that email/call of excitement from the customer akin to a kid on Christmas morning. Sharing that is priceless and gives me the motivation to continue, and I want to thank those of you who have shared that moment with me in the past year!

So, enough chit chat. Sit back, relax, and enjoy all the pictures!

Hey everyone! Two new armies up this week. One Circle Orboros the other a Minions Pig force. Each has a fall theme. The Orboros have sort of a dark, moonlit and cold look, while the Farrow have a traditional red/orange/brown Fall theme going on.

Maxmini Storm Crow Heads

More nice heads coming from Maxmini. Great potential for Dark Eldar and maybe even IG. Besides the Assassins Creed vibe the second to last and last remind me of something out of a video game, but I can't put my finger on it.

Maxmini makes great stuff and they have good service. I order from them a lot and don't be shy to yourself. Shipping to the US usually takes 2-3 weeks as a heads up.

Old School 'Raider

As an owner of an old shoe box Land Raider, I can say this is a pretty good reproduction that also blends in some of the newer style. While I am not sure if I see it alongside modern Raiders in the same army, I see lots of potential for preheresy armies, as well as some retro themed homebrew chapters :)

I need to start updating with stuff other than Forge World, as there are a lot of other companies putting out great stuff, I just love Forge World :D

Also I get their newsletter.

Currently working on a fun double project that will be up for Holloween. Lot's of spooky and scary stuff, should be fun.

This looks pretty interesting, and I have to say 90% of the time I buy a gaming book for it's aesthetics. Looks like I'll be grabbing this and I am curious as to how balanced it is. If it follows the trend of most Forge World books it will be slightly overcosted overall for points, but the teaser entries look like a lot of fun. I am either going to do Ogres or something out of this book before the year is over, so we will see.

New Forge World

Forge World has been putting out some really great models lately. I've always been a big fan of Forge World but the stuff continues to get better and better since the start of Warhammer Forge.

Another Techmarine sculpt is always welcome, and thankfully this also solves the counts as conversion beamer problem. There are a couple of conversion beamer kits out there but this one is ready to go and the rest of the model is great on top of that. I really like the tendril arms.

The Skaven Lord makes me yet again want to do a Skaven army, but it would also make a great second Hell Pit Abomination for those that don't like doubles of a sculpt. It also has a lot of Chaos potential for a Nurgle army whether Demons or Chaos Mortals. The second is interesting and could be fun in a Wood Elves army, but it as well could be made into an interesting HPA. And as always, anything undead and mutated would be great as a counts as in a Chaos army.

Even though I have already made an Empire army, all of the Warhammer Forge Empire kits make me want to do an army of Manaan. I love all things nautical in theme and it would be great to make up a very wealthy coastal Empire city.

Just wanted to share these as I was very impressed and see lots of potential in them.

Dacian 1/1 Update

The vehicles are finished! They came out well, and I am really happy with how the brown came out. I did something different with the tanks and pipes of the hellhounds, and I am looking forward to getting some pictures of that at the end. Slightly tarnished pipe instead of the usual rust.

Infantry Update

Infantry assembled and after basing and priming they will be ready to go. A bit slow but Ive also been working on painting the vehicles, which are about 1/3 of the way finished at this point.

Lots of cool conversions in there. One unit is made up of Valkyrie pilot bodies, with the rebreathers that come in the command squad kit which will ride in the Crassus as the "crew," sort of like the guys on an aircraft carrier that do all the refueling and maintenance.

But I will have close ups as time goes on.

Post Battle Update

So it's been along week. A lot going on, but the Empire vs. Orcs game went well and I've been gearing up for the next few projects.

The good - I'm working on a huge Alpha Legion army right now and it's coming along really well. Also going to start on a Superheavy tank for Heros of Armageddon. I'd like to say what it is, but I think I was told to keep it a secret. Maybe when it's done and I get some pics I can post them.

The bad - My ancient laptop of +1 blue screen has finally kicked the bucket, hence the lack of updates and in general I have been very quiet and it feels strange. Working hard to try and keep up on email without a computer.

The ugly - I took over 200 pictures of the big game, and looking over all of them, they all seem integral to the telling of the battle report! I still hope to have a battle report up soon but it might be a while. It's a lot of writing! Maybe I will do it in steps, but then I worry about getting sidetracked.

Now for the fun part, the game! I will post a battle report when it is over. Scheduled for next weekend, and hopefully the report will be up soon after that.

After that, I have a Thunderhawk and a Alpha Legion army ready to go. I'm ready to paint a large vehicle after this army! :D

Magic Mini Machine Plan

I just uploaded a Menoth army to the site. It was painted to be in the traditional red and white but slightly original in the shades of the colors - a more bluish white and wine sort of purple.

Also remembered to photograph the other 50 man Halberdier unit this time. This represents the Company of Honor in the Heraldry of the Empire book.

(5/31/11) Black Templars and Other Updates

A little bit of a belated update this week - I've been without internet for about a week. We have had a lot of stormy weather here lately, and a tornado hit nearby last week. There were news vans from Indianapolis just down the road, as the damage was extreme. A trailer park was hit the worst. Many are moved around and flipped, if not completely destroyed. There are trees down so big you couldn't put your arms around them.

But luckily no one was severely hurt and the damage overall was pretty limited. Pretty much this whole side of town has been without power off and on for the past week, and I know at least on my street the internet is just now being addressed. Mostly downed lines.

So, sorry for the absence. I had no way of posting so I need to catch up on my Empire updates, but in the mean time check out these Black Templars! I'm excited to finally have a traditional Black Templar army done and in the gallery. :)

I'm working on catching up on my email. I will also be sending out the newsletter tomorrow morning. It's getting pretty late and it's been a long day!

For Love of the Empire Pt 4

Nothing new to see here, just a general update as I have been pretty quiet lately. Most of my time has been taken up by working on the Empire on top of regular projects, which is actually working out well. I think I will have plenty of time to spare for the big game. My Empire co commander- the friend we are seeing off with this game, has been coming over a lot to paint and it's kept me glued to my seat. Time and paint flies when you have good conversation to distract.

His army is actually 75% done (boo, going to have to put him to work!). He is using Army Painter, going for a witch hunter theme using brown and red with feathers denoting which units were gathered from which province. Should be a nice contrast to my army which is a very bright martial army. Even my War Altar is actually a General and his guard on a chariot base.

But anyway. List is pretty much the same, and I plan on posting pics soon. Working on the movement trays so I can finally take pictures of finished units. The artillery is done as well so I will definitely have pictures up along with tomorrows Dark Eldar update.

In other news I have been back into Fantasy and going strong with my old Warriors. You might recall I had them for sale for a little bit, but I am glad I went with my gut and held onto them. I have added a couple units such as 24 Tzeentch Chosen (well...to choose from, have yet to use 24) and a Sorcerer Lord on a disk. I will have pics of them up soon too.

So I will be posting a lot more battle reports. Tomorrow I am going to a local store to play 2500, so I will be sure to take some pictures of that as well.

So I have been going over the list, writing and rewriting since I last posted, and now it's quite a bit different, as well as the fluff of the army and game.

The game will be based around Helmgart in Axe Bite Pass. I thought it over and all of these places coming together is a bit silly, especially when you consider the politics involved (which I didnt know much of until I read the Heraldry book). So my army will be (almost) 100% Reikland, with each unit coming from a different city. Here is the new list and what they represent:

50 Halberdiers - Altdorf (Company of Honor from the Heraldry book, red blue and yellow feathers. Pistolier heads)
50 Halberdiers - Grunberg (green and white, all feathered caps)
35 Swordsmen - Bogenhafen (purple and white, wine country folk and the champ is a Mordheim model holding up a wine bottle :) )
35 Swordsmen - Nuln (Grundels Defenders from the Heraldry book. All metal capped heads from the state troop sets)
20 Crossbowmen - Helmgarts Defenders (from Heraldry book, Mariglianos Marksmen models)
30 Greatswords - Carroburg!

And then lots of Nuln artillery and characters.

The nice thing about having so many state troops is I can cherry pick the bits. The Bogenhafen folks all have similar shield styles while I was also able to give the Nuln guys shields that look like what they have in the book. Same for heads, except I had to bit order the pistolier heads.

2500 points of Empire before Heros!

I figured I would start this blog set with a bold statement. I have recently decided to make an Empire army. I have always wanted one, and I found some great excuses:

1. I love my Adepticon sort of blogging too much to only do it once a year.

2. I figured if I do the army as a combined arms sort of force with lots of different states, I can break the painting up into manageable chunks that I can do in my spare time, instead of having to do it during work time like my Adepticon armies (that I always wait till last minute to do)

3. I love Empire. I love the quasi historical feel. I like the huge, and numerous units. I like the artillery. I love how you really have no hope unless you are at a tactical advantage.

4. I have a friend making an Empire army.

5. Said friend is moving away in the summer, and we have pledged to both finish our armies by the time he leaves, and have one mega narrative battle against the group to send him away right.

Sounds like fun! (At least until I go to assemble 200 state troops! :D )

Here is a rough list so far:

Overview. Carpet is "coffee and paint stained concrete." Very luxurious.

My guard turtle since pirates don't like dogs I think. Splashes upon intrusion.

The gaming table. 75% permanent space for projects in limbo. 25% temporary space for gaming.

The tube. 99% Netflix. 1% Call of Duty.

The couch. 100% my big fat butt.
Another couch. The painting isn't crooked, the camera is.

Where I paint. This is impossible to keep clean so I didn't even try.

Nothing huge but it's where I make the diabolical plans.

Well it's over for me once again and I walked away with a players choice! The weekend was awesome. Saw some good old friends and met some great new people as well. I'm always impressed by both the atmosphere and attitude of everyone at adepticon. The response to the army was overwhelming and I was very flattered so many people liked it and stopped by to check it out. Didnt get appearance, but the bright side of that is it went to another Ork army. Orks represented big time this year!

As usual it went by way too fast and I didn't get to stay as long as I'd like, so if I missed anyone I am sorry and hopefully there will be another chance in the future.

Now back to work! Those minis aren't going to paint themselves!

Boyz Are Done!

Went and printed out the billboard and mounted it on foamboard. Just eyeballing it right now. This is not where it will go (piggies go on the walkway), it will be up on legs, the bottom higher than the rocks in the background.

There is also a giant scrap metal skull and crossbones that will be hung in the top right corner.

Actually you can see the little hole the left "leg" will go into left of the board.

Display Progress

Yesterday I did most of the basics of the board. There are still a lot of small details to be painted, and there are a lot of things not attached to be painted (cacti, piggies, the two towers in the back, the ramps and crates over the front gap, the billboard etc etc). Im going today to print out the billboard but I think I am going to start the infantry as well. It will probably be a bit before I update with something good again, as it will be a couple days before I have anything worth looking at on 100 or so Orks.

Loaded Up and Trukkin'

I went ahead and did most of the small details on these two Trukks. I was going to wait and do the riders when I do the infantry but I realized all I am really worried about is the skin matching. The other colors are easy enough to match. So I will do the skin and the bone colors (as most of them go over the finished green) later on down the line. I will likely also add dags and other freehand at the end, but I want to wait and see where the infantry go in terms of paint. I also want to wait and decide lens colors later as well.

There will be more riders on each of these, especially the topped Trakk. I decided to do them seperately mid way into adding them to these two vehicles. The Trukk will have a gunner in the cab and a couple more in the bed. The Trakk has a couple up top and a few in the bed as well.

Now onto the next part, I think the Tanker.

Looking back at the pictures, please forgive how terrible they are. Using bad lighting and no tripod. I will of course do final pics when they are done and I update the site.

Made some good progress yesterday. Other than the Orks riding them these vehicles are about 50-75% done. The Battlewagons on the right are further along than say the tanker. Tanker still needs a lot more work especially the front end.

The Humongous and Wes

The Humongous isn't leaning as bad as the photo makes out. It's a product of perspective and losing his other leg behind his body. Also in hindsight I am going to swap their boss poles. Doesnt make sense for the #2 to have a larger boss pole.

Not as extensive conversion wise as the others, they just sort of fell together out of perfect bits and I left it at that.

And with these two down, all 50-some Orks are done! All that is left at this point is some more vehicle riders and the Deffcopta gyro. The display is coming along well but I decided to get some more varied plasticard so it is on hold for the time being.

It is kinda hard to tell what's going on with the lighting but it will make more sense once it is painted.

I redid the list today as the Makk Tanker Trukk is just going to be too big to count as a Trukk, so I swapped it out for a Wagon and swapped some stuff around so it will fit. I will post the new version soon.

Mad Morks (Mek Gitson)

And featuring the little boomerang kid. The grot's pointy arm has since been replaced. I thought I was out of grot arms but I found a better pointy one by chance among my gallon of bits.

Morks' head has changed about five times since I made his body, but I think this is the one. It's been hard to find a head that would A. look good with hair and B. be the right scale to the body. Most have been either too small or too big.

The Display Begins...

This is the start to the display. It's 3'x2' and being built into a plastic serving cart. That is the top tray. Actually it isn't plastic like you might think, it's something super heavy, and heavy duty. But anyway, that little thing next to the gallon of Fast n Final is an Ork.

I lucked out and the two different sizes of foam insulation I bought stacks perfectly with the top lip of the tray, so all that they needed was a little spackling around the edges and some sanding. The only downside is I am realizing about a half inch cubed of Fast n Final takes a day or two to dry...

Lots of progress on assembly of the Adpticon army. Right now #1 priority is the charity nurgle, then some badly needed cleaning up and organizing (my gaming table is covered and surrounded by sprues and boxes from working on the Ork army) and then I will start posting progress of the Orks. The army itself is 75% assembled and converted. It just needs a couple more buggies, and some cosmetic conversion and sculpting work. The display progress....0%... Waiting on a serving cart I ordered to come in so I can start on that. Instead of lugging it around this year I am going to build it into the cart and wheel it around.

So updates since the last Ork related post:
- Cart ordered
- Ordered more afterthought bits and terrain gubbinz.
- Ordered magnets and WotR movement trays to magnetize the bases of the whole army (so no need for a case this year)
- Armorcast blast effects added to guns and whatnotz
- The Big Trakk now has a custom metal cover thingie loaded up with junk boxes and a dumpster. Ill take a pic of this soon, it came out pretty cool.

One thing I need to do is write a solid list, which I have been meaning to do just no time. For some reason army builder is acting funny when it comes to making Nob squads so I am not sure the exact total.

Anyway, back to work on the Nurgle. They came in late, last Thursday in fact, so update will probably be this weekend.

Lots of bugs! This is my first full Nid army, and they were a lot of fun. Very different than painting armor, and the first time in a long while I haven't used metal on something.

Up next is a charity army for Adepticon, and then it's full speed ahead on the Orks. I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but other than gathering supplies the army is on hold while I finish this last project before the convention. The charity army would probably be a two week army but I am going to put in lots of hours and try and do the update early next week, so no weekend update. Goal is Tuesday or Wednesday.

It is a Nurgle army, and the Adepticon staff ordered a lot of nice Forge World kits for it. Also a big thanks to Chaos Mail Order for donating the plastic kits!

Still waiting on the MaxMini parts to come in. Shipping across the pond is slow. So things are on hold for a little while. On the bright side I received my Dragon Forge bases, Hobbylink pasticard and junk, and the rest of the GW stuff I forgot.

I ordered a ton of stuff for the display and some of those blast effect bits from Armorcast. After I ordered it said there was a 15 business day backorder :( Not a huge deal though since that is for the last steps anyway.

This weeks army is a Death Guard army in traditional colors. Wasn't feeling too hot yesterday, was wiped after taking pictures so I decided to wait to upload today.

I've been making some progress on the Mad Max army and I promise to post some this week. Tina, Mad Max, and Master Blaster are about done :) Waiting on a golbin crossbow to finish Tina, if the conversion will work..

Got the forge world in! Less than a week and everything is here. In person it is even more detailed and some kits such as the big trakk are incredibly intricate models. Will take some time to assemble for sure. The kill bursta and Krusha are HUGE. Much bigger than I thought. Equal to a macharius or so but more boxy. Overall happy as usual with forge world stuff.

Adepticon 2011 Part 1

I'm not sure yet if I want to make this year's army a public process or not. The Eldar were given a blog treatment but the pirates were 100% under wraps. I did enjoy blogging the progress and I'm not sure keeping the pirates quiet really added any surprise. I will be thinking it over during the holidays, leaning towards a blog as it is very conversion intensive.

Realizing how long I have waited to start (Pirates were all done but paint in September last time) I went ahead and ordered everything. Forge World took the biggest chunk, but between that, regular GW kits, conversion bits and Plastruct materials it hit four digits rather quickly...which hurt but it's always worth it and a one time cost. However models, bits and accessories are one of the few things I enjoy buying. Rent, food etc....that's no fun :) The size of the overall army also adds to the cost. The pirate list was rather small. This one is very big, and there are two models for every one in the list (modelled vehicle riders.)

Also one thing that is very different this year - I bought everything before making a list. I usually make a competitive list and try and model around it. This time I am making a list around all the models I love. It still won't be bad on the table, I chose things that tend to be good anyway, but the Codex is a good one and there arent a lot of bad choices. The only thing it definitely will be hurt on is kill points.

For giggles I did go ahead and make a rough list in army builder today. It was a bit short so I had to duplicate a troop unit (but that never hurts anyway) and add a model I should have included in the first place anyway.

None of this makes any sense I am sure since the army isn't revealed, but that's another point in favor of posting progress :)

What to Read...

Every year around Christmas I get time to read, more so than usual, so I'm trying to decide.

I've read Ravenor but it's been a while. It's one of my favorites, up there with Last Chancers. Path of the Warrior I have not read yet, which is a shame because I'm sure it's great since it was written by Thorpe. Grey knights I am not sure about, but it's fitting with the upcoming release.

Also plan on reading some general sci fi from a friend. Very tempted to read Snow Crash again but I've read it so many times..should stick to new stuff.

Any suggestions?
