Hey everyone!
Welcome to Flashback Friday, where I revisit old armies I have painted from the past. I have painted thousands of models and who knows how many huge armies on commission, and each one holds a special place in my heart. A little sweat, a lot of love, and some collaboration with another person and who knows what you can create! I enjoy looking back every once in a while at the photos and remembering the joys and struggles, the hard work and the pure enjoyment of making someone's vision a reality. But enough of that emotional stuff, let's get on with it! I miss you, baby!
The army I am reminiscing over this time around is a Nurgle Traitor Guard army I did in 2012. It is a favorite because the customer did all the conversions himself and it really felt like a collaboration of equal parts assembly and painting.
This army is a majority Imperial Guard with some added well-converted allies. It has a real presence on the table and a lot of characters thanks to the thought that went into conversion, that made for a great canvas for paint.
First, the centerpiece of the army, a Warhound Titan. The customer wanted a custom base and fully magnetized parts. No other way to do a Titan! Additional extra miniatures were painted alongside the army and attached to the base for a final touch.
The HQ choices for the army are primarily Psyker choices. A few options that can be used in either an Imperial Guard or Chaos list.
A couple more options for flexibility and cool factor - a Quartermaster and standards.
Chaos rough riders, heavily converted.
Some really amazing Ogryn conversions. I laughed out loud when I unpacked these; a real fun bunch of models to paint.
The traitor Guardsmen are all a hodgepodge of Forge World and aftermarket bits. No two models alike is the only way to go!
Leman Russes for heavy support, with added crew and sculpted sandbags.
A Manticore with added rear platform and crew.
Malcador chassis variants. Really awesome tanks with a lot of character! Just big enough to stand out from the crowd in Apocalypse games.
The Vendetta helicopter was built from a plastic kit and a lot of plasticard. The repelling Guarsman and stubber side "bolters" are a cool touch!
A Forge World Hellhound model for burning other heretics!
Six Chimeras were made to haul around the Guardsmen. Added side plates and bullet holes add a lot of realism. The dozers are from the Repressor kit.
Two Hydras for anti-air support round out the army.
That's "all" for this huge Apocalypse size army. I love doing armies this size! They truly feel "complete" and there is an element of charm to an army that has every element ready to go and on the table, matching and ready to go.
Hope you enjoyed my walk down memory lane. Keep up with my latest work on Facebook if you like!
