Saim Hann Adepticon 2017 Charity Raffle Army

Hey out there. I am back with this year's Adepticon charity raffle army, and this time it is Saim Hann. If you will be at Adepticon next week, be sure to pick up some raffle tickets to try and win. For two good causes - Disabled American Veterans, and the W.D Boyce Boyscout Council. Last year the army raised into the five digits and hopefully we can do that again. 

As for Adepticon itself, I hope to post something when I get there with more information, but for now I will be in booth 57 in the vendor hall all weekend, so by all means stop by and say hello! Plans for the booth are pretty fun, with a little reunion tour of a few of the big displays and a couple other things.

The Deadpool Army - Themed Imperial Guard Elysians

"Chimichanga, chimichanga, chimichanga!"

My latest army commission - a Deadpool theme Elysian army with custom backdrop.  "The Goon Army" of toadies and foot soldiers ready to do the dirty work when Deadpool is busy making tacos.

Much careful thought and time were put into research and creating the personality of the army and display.  The process was a blast and an extra treat on top of what was already a great group of models and scheme.

Intermission!

Several massive projects in the works, here, there and generally taking over the place as they do in summertime. Unusual for me to go more than a few weeks without an update, so here are some pretty pictures of a couple recent commissions going at it for the time being.  

Also need to officially announce I will be at Gencon 2015 in Indianapolis!  At the Cool Mini booth again, I am working on a display similar to the Marienburger for their new Rum and Bones board game being released at the event.  As always come and say hello if you are going!

Legion of the Damned and Company

An army of Legion of the Damned and a custom chapter, the blue portion of this army was used for the Adepticon team tournament, then the Legion sent to me after the convention. The teal works well contrasted with the orange-gold not only on the solid marines, but as an accent on the Legion.  Having not seen many Legion alternatives, doing something slightly different was very appealing. While the standard scheme of red flames will always be the go-to, this is a solid alternative that stands well on it's own, even without the teal marines they were to blend in with.  

Up next - work in earnest on the Deadpool Imperial Guard army, a Dread Suarian, and two new photography backdrops. Both based on video game level design - one Overpass from Counter Strike, the other Bloodborne with some absolutely insane Gothic windows by Ironheart Artisans, both in size and complexity.  Summer is here and that means sunshine and big projects outdoors.  See you then.

Tau Invasion!

Good afternoon, friends. Here is an army commission I just finished for your viewing pleasure.  This time a Tau infantry force with a little bit of everything; lots of Forge World and suit conversions are included.  The scheme is simple but powerful, with the contrast between the blue and the basing as well as the multiple brown natural tones hand shaded into all of the grey.

Very happy with how these turned out, continuing the effort to push the bleeding edge of my own skill with each new army. Already excited for the next one, and if you are interested in reaching out for an army project just drop me a line!

Fresh Paint Showcase: Dragonwing - Salamander Bikers

Vroom vroom!  I hope you like bikes, because here's a whole bunch!

A very challenging army to paint, but also very rewarding.  I enjoy split color schemes simply because I get a kick out of making that last line highlight that divides the colors perfectly.  It also just looks great.

The client was after a Slamanders army using what is traditionally a White Scars batch of models (including Khan).  What I did was split the army down the middle white and green, making sure to balance the green with the white, which is tricky and very important. The shoulder pads are my favorite decision we came up with.  They help balance both sides and solved the issue of emblem colors. Best of all that mix-up of coloring translated very, very well to the vehicles.

Fresh Paint Showcase: Dusk Raiders Veterans

About a year ago I did a massive Dusk Raiders army with a Reaver and about a company's worth of models.  This is a "small" addition to that army, themed around an existing veteran force.  It's all the fun toys the basic army didn't have..since they didn't exist.  

I really like painting split color infantry.  To many it might seem tedious, but the pop that comes with it is worth it, definitely.  The next Marine army on the table is split colors as well. See you then!

2014 - A Year in Review

It is always fun to look back and see what you have done, and how far you have come, and what a year it has been around here!  I've managed to paint my fair share and see many great projects come through my paint table.  It looks equally bright and exciting for 2015. Always grateful to be able to paint every day, and work on these projects you all bring to me. I hope you all have a great New Year, and enjoy the pictures!

Fresh Paint Showcase: Death Korps of Krieg Veterans

New set I just finished for you all - Death Korps of Krieg!  This is the infantry half, inspired by the army I did way back in 2009 or so.  I was really excited to take this on, as it allowed me to revisit that army and scheme and see what I could do with all I had learned since then, and brought my painting level up quite a bit.  The main differences you will note are the sharper blue, and the hand blended rather than airbrush tan/orange of the greatcoats.  Really proud of how this army turned out, and excited to see the clients response as I am sure he was fully expecting the level of paint from before.

Hey all!  

Another post - another army! This time around it is an Admech army that counts as Tau in game.  Lots of Fire Warriors, suits, drones, and one Riptide.  The display is based on Forge World boards build up from kit bashing and scratch.  It features a working Android tabled, which plays an animated slideshow as army nameplate.  The building roofs remove for access to LED wiring, but the switches are mounted in windows to allow for easy access.

There has always been something very romantic about traditional model building. I am an old soul in the sense I prefer traditional effects to computer generated. It's not an argument of skill, but in my opinion one of charm. I grew up with movies using traditional effects. We all have seen the Death Star trench and the ALIEN xenomorph. The fact that these were framed with wood and sculpted with clay or model parts makes them more interesting to me.
